In addition to our team in Austin, several members of the Praxent team are based in Raleigh, North Carolina. We took a visit to Raleigh to hang out with the team, and hear from them first-hand about their experience working remotely for Praxent. Here’s what they had to say.
Meredith Barnett – Product Designer: “NC is an area that they’re [Praxent is] trying to build up and put focus in, and implementing those Care Deeply parts of Praxent. Caring about your employees, and not just treating them as an afterthought.”
We traveled to Praxent NC to learn from the experience of our remote team.
Peter Elbaum – Software Engineer: “Just a few hours in, but things seem to be going well so far.”
Ok , that’s good. How’s it been having the CEO out here?
Peter: “It’s meant a lot to me that you all made the effort to come out here and we get to do Hackathons here in North Carolina together.”
Aw shucks, any time! What’s remote life like?
Bastien Buchaca – Software Engineer: “I had the chance to work with Praxent both as an office employee and as a remote employee. My experience hasn’t been difficult going from one to the other because of all the tools available to us. We work a lot during video conferences, and Everybody always tries to keep their cameras on. So it’s easy to still have this like 1 on 1 interaction with people. So yeah, it’s been an easy process.”
As a manager, how well does Praxent’s remote culture work?
Jared Cobb – Engineering Manager: “I think that the remote culture is pretty strong at Praxent and it’s only getting stronger. And what I mean by “remote culture” is, do we have the tools in place, do we have the norms in place, to support a team being able to work distributedly.”
Do you feel remote being remote?
Rob Ridgeway – Delivery Lead: “They’re [Praxent leadership is] great at organizing that stuff, so I don’t feel the remote remote remoteness of being in Charlotte versus being in Raleigh versus being in Austin at all.”
What does the future of remote work look like at Praxent?
Tim Hamilton – CEO and Founder: “With team members throughout Central and South America and North Carolina, and even in Egypt, remote work is just part of our DNA. We’ve been practicing it for over a decade, we’ve refined our processes and made investments in tools and technologies that make us incredibly effective, and I see us doing more of that in the future, expanding our team and expanding our talents as a result.”
What would you say to a potential Praxenter?
Eric Wilson – Software Architect: “I guess it’s definitely become situational. You want to find out What are the motivating factors of going to Praxent versus going to company XYZ. Are they looking for remote or not remote? I guess it comes down to the good fit. But one thing that I would tell people to do, I told this to Tim earlier – listen to Tim’s podcast. It really gives you a good understanding of the culture, of what Tim is like, what kind of company he wants to build, and also to the level that he speaks personally about those around him, and how he isn’t just one guy doing this all, he’s building a team, and you become part of that team.”
